Kindness is a powerful force for change!

If you live in the MetroWest Boston area, perhaps you’ve already heard about the amazing organization we are inspired by today!

If you go to their website, this is one of the first things you’ll see –

“Together we can make sure no one feels alone, bullied, unsupported, or unconnected – every day and especially in the most challenging times.

This speaks volumes to me about their work and their guiding principles!

Today’s source of inspiration for me is

SPARK Kindness!

Their mission

To build a kind, resilient and welcoming community where no one feels alone, bullied, unsupported or unconnected. We support families, schools, organizations, coaches, artists, faith and community leaders in building a culture that empowers youth and promotes kindness and respect.”

I’m not crying, you’re crying!

Guiding Principles

It’s no wonder that this is their mission – once you learn about SPARK’s founder and executive director, Christine Fortune Guthery, you’ll understand why!

Christine is an attorney and a mother of 3. She’s had a life-long interest in promoting social justice and inclusion.

In 2010, though none of her three children had been bullied, Christine saw a need for parents and schools to work together to support a positive school culture.

There was definitely a critical need – by 2011, this movement had expanded beyond parents and schools to the whole community. Thus, SPARK Kindness came to be!

I want to share some of Christine’s reflections from a talk she gave last May entitled, “Using your Power for Kindness”.

She shared, “…there is kindness all around us. And if we see it and we can recognize it, we can amplify it and it grows… and it spreads.

Christine went on to say, “The truth is, we have so much power, more power than we even know. We’re more powerful than we think we are, with regard to kindness and with regard to lack of kindness.”

SPARK’s Approach

Here’s what SPARK stands for –

  • Successful
  • Positive
  • Authentic
  • Resilient
  • Kids

Christine and her amazing team believe that –

Kindness + Courage + Community = Positive Change

And that … Kindness connects us!
